GoodShip* and Liverpool John Moores University continue the AI Activator, focused on startups, data, and rapid impact across the Liverpool City Region.

Following the success of our initial collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University, we’re bringing the GoodShip* AI Activator back, with a broader ambition, a more diverse cohort, and a sharper focus on real-world impact across the Liverpool City Region.
The first Activator demonstrated what’s possible when you combine accelerated learning, purpose-driven organisations, and emerging talent. In just a matter of days, students were able to apply AI tools and thinking to live challenges, producing outcomes that organisations could immediately build upon.
Now, we’re taking that model further.
This next chapter of the AI Activator shifts focus towards startups and the wider local ecosystem, exploring how purpsoe and early-stage growing ventures can benefit from structured, high-intensity AI support.
We’re pairing startups with dedicated squads of interns, supported by GoodShip*, to work through real business challenges. From data analysis and insight generation through to workflow optimisation and creative problem-solving, the aim is simple: deliver meaningful outputs, fast.
This isn’t theory. It’s applied AI, delivered in days, not months.
One of the most powerful evolutions in this programme is the composition of the cohort itself.
This time, we’re bringing together soon-to-be graduates from across Liverpool John Moores University, spanning disciplines including computer science, psychology, criminology, and marketing. That diversity is intentional.
Different perspectives lead to better questions. Better questions lead to better solutions.
By creating multidisciplinary teams, we’re building an environment where technical capability, human insight, and creative thinking combine to produce more rounded, more impactful outcomes.
At the same time, the Activator continues to open up pathways for graduates to explore opportunities within the Liverpool City Region, from placements and collaborations through to long-term roles within startups and the third sector.
At its core, the AI Activator is about access.
Access to tools.
Access to knowledge.
Access to opportunity.
It’s designed to accelerate learning, but also to demystify AI, opening what can often feel like a closed world and enabling people to experiment, apply, and build confidence quickly.
We’re not just teaching AI. We’re embedding it into real work.
To showcase the outcomes of this next phase, we’re hosting two upcoming demo sessions and inviting partners, organisations, and ecosystem leaders to join us.
These sessions are an opportunity to see the work in action, meet the teams, and explore how this model could support your own organisation or network.

This session will centre on startups and innovation, showcasing how the Activator model can support early-stage ventures with data, insight, and rapid execution.
This isn’t a one-off programme. It’s part of a broader effort to rethink how talent, technology, and purpose connect across the Liverpool City Region.
By bringing together universities, businesses, startups, and third sector organisations, we’re creating a shared space to experiment, collaborate, and build new pathways into work.
If you’re interested in seeing what that looks like in practice, we’d encourage you to join us at one of the demo sessions.
Or, if you’re exploring how AI could support your organisation, get in touch. We’re always open to the next conversation.
