GoodShip* Activation

Good people should know good people.

Less networking theatre. More useful conversation.

Interesting things happen when the right people meet.

An idea gets challenged. Someone learns something. A founder finds the person they needed. A student meets an employer. Two organisations realise they should work together. Someone leaves with a completely different perspective.

KinShip is the GoodShip* community.

A place for curious people to meet, learn, share knowledge and see what happens next.

Connection is a form of infrastructure.

What KinShip is
KinShip is a community created by GoodShip* for people interested in learning, sharing knowledge, making useful connections and exploring ideas together.

People often talk about ecosystems in terms of organisations, funding, programmes, buildings and support.

But relationships matter too.

  • Knowing who to ask.
  • Knowing who has done it before.
  • Knowing somebody who can make an introduction.
  • Being able to share what you've learned.
  • Having somewhere to test an idea.
  • Meeting people outside your usual circle.

KinShip exists to create more of those moments.

Not because every connection needs an immediate commercial outcome. But because useful relationships compound over time.

Sometimes the most valuable thing we can create is the introduction.

Nobody needs another room full of name badges and sales pitches.

Networking has its place. But too many events create the same experience.

  • Arrive.
  • Grab a drink.
  • Talk to people you already know.
  • Listen to a panel.
  • Collect some LinkedIn connections.
  • Go home.

KinShip should feel different. We want people to:

  • learn something
  • meet someone unexpected
  • share something useful
  • ask questions
  • contribute
  • leave with an idea
  • help somebody else

The goal isn’t: how many business cards did you collect? It is: was the time worth giving up?

Job titles aren't the interesting bit.

KinShip is deliberately multidisciplinary.

Because useful ideas often appear between sectors, disciplines and experiences. The shared characteristic isn’t a job title — it’s curiosity and a willingness to contribute.

What happens

Different formats.
Same reason for existing.

KinShip is designed around conversation, contribution and shared learning rather than traditional business networking or sales-led events.

Knowledge sharing

Give people access to what you know.

Practical sessions led by people with genuine experience. Not lectures designed to demonstrate expertise. Useful knowledge people can do something with.

Conversations

Create space for questions.

Smaller discussions around technology, business, creativity, impact, community, work and ideas.

AI & Tech for Good

Explore what emerging technology can actually do for people.

Events and conversations focused on AI, responsible technology, practical applications, social impact and future skills.

Show & tell

Bring something you've made.

Products. Experiments. Ideas. Campaigns. Research. Prototypes. Interesting work deserves somewhere to be shared.

Connections

Introduce people intentionally.

Sometimes the most useful role GoodShip* plays is simply saying: you two should know each other.

Community experiences

Not everything has to look like a business event.

KinShip should create room for playful formats, unusual venues, collaborative experiences and creative activity.

Knowledge sharing

Everybody knows something somebody else could use.

There is enormous knowledge sitting inside businesses, agencies, universities, charities, communities, individuals.

Much of it stays there.

KinShip creates opportunities for people to share what worked, what didn't, lessons, expertise, mistakes, tools, ideas, experiences.

You don’t need to be a professional speaker. You need something useful to share.

Give before you ask.

KinShip is built around one of GoodShip*’s core values: Be a Go-Giver.

That means entering a community thinking:

Rather than: what can I sell? Who can buy from me? What can I get out of this?

That does not mean commercial relationships are unwelcome. Quite the opposite. Strong commercial relationships often emerge when people have already created value for each other.

  • What can I share?
  • Who can I introduce?
  • What do I know that could help somebody?
  • Where can I create an opportunity?

Useful first. Transactional later, if it makes sense.

KinShip is GoodShip* practising what it believes.

GoodShip* talks about people, participation, collaboration, knowledge and opportunity.

KinShip creates somewhere those ideas can happen.

It also creates relationships that inform the wider GoodShip* ecosystem — from client work to Activations.

Share what we're learning
KinShip is where our own thinking gets tested in public.
Connect people
Introductions are one of the most useful things we can create.
Discover challenges
Real problems surface in conversation long before they become briefs.
Create opportunities
Work, collaborations, placements and partnerships start with meeting.
Test event formats
We experiment with how people learn and participate together.
Bring sectors together
Ideas travel fastest between disciplines.

A KinShip conversation might eventually lead to

  • a client project
  • a partnership
  • a challenge for AI Activator
  • an opportunity on OneDock
  • a Navigate connection
  • absolutely nothing commercial

All are valid outcomes.

Community isn't only about how many people showed up.

Attendance matters. But we want to understand more.

  • Did people return?
  • Did people contribute?
  • Were connections made?
  • Did anyone find an opportunity?
  • Did organisations collaborate?
  • Did people learn something useful?

GoodShip* has already brought together almost 900 people across 18 community events and experiences. As KinShip develops we’ll measure more deeply: total attendees, unique participants, repeat participants, knowledge contributors, organisations represented, introductions made, partnerships formed, opportunities created, participant satisfaction.

A full room is nice. A useful room is better.

1,000s

people brought together

Across multiple GoodShip* community events and experiences to date.

18

events and experiences

Different formats, venues and conversations rather than one repeated night.

Multi-sector

rooms by design

Founders, creatives, technologists, educators, students and community leaders.

Measuring

what happens next

Repeat participation, contributors, introductions, partnerships and opportunities created.

What happened because people met?

Event photography only tells you a room was full. These are the outcomes we care about: who met, what happened next and why it mattered.

The connection

A founder and a technologist

What happened next

A conversation over food turned into a working prototype a few weeks later.

Why it mattered

An idea that had been stuck for months finally had somebody to build it with.

The connection

A student and an employer

What happened next

A short exchange after a talk became a placement conversation.

Why it mattered

Access to a network usually reserved for people much further into their careers.

The connection

Two organisations in the same room

What happened next

They realised they were solving opposite halves of the same problem.

Why it mattered

A partnership neither had budgeted for, and both needed.

Events

Come and be part of it.

KinShip activity happens through different formats, venues and conversations. See what’s coming up.

Events are managed in one place alongside the wider GoodShip* community calendar, so dates, venues and tickets stay accurate.

Nothing scheduled right now. New KinShip activity is added as soon as dates are confirmed.

Host

Got a space people should know about?

KinShip doesn’t need to happen in the same room every time.

We’re interested in interesting venues. Places where people can meet, talk, learn, make, experience something different.

Hosting KinShip could help

  • introduce new people to the venue
  • create useful conversations
  • support community activity
  • connect the organisation into the wider network

Businesses

Open your space to people who should know your team.

Universities

Connect research, students and industry in one room.

Cultural venues

Bring a different kind of audience through the door.

Innovation spaces

Put the people you support alongside people they should meet.

Community organisations

Host conversations that matter locally.

Unusual places

If it's interesting, we're interested.

Partner

Help make useful things happen.

We’re open to partnerships with organisations that share the spirit of KinShip.

The right partner should add value to the community rather than simply place a logo on the event.

Possible partner types

  • businesses
  • universities
  • technology organisations
  • professional services
  • funders
  • venues
  • cultural organisations

Events

Help make individual KinShip activity happen well.

Venues

Provide space that makes an experience feel different.

Content

Support knowledge sharing, documentation and storytelling.

Community programmes

Back longer-running strands rather than a single night.

Emerging talent

Create access for students and people early in their careers.

Food & hospitality

People talk more honestly when they're fed.

Contribute

You don't have to be a keynote speaker.

Some of the best knowledge sharing happens because somebody knows something useful — not because they have a speaker bio.

Maybe you have

  • built something
  • failed at something
  • researched something
  • learned something difficult
  • solved an unusual problem
  • worked in a sector others are curious about

Short talks

Fifteen useful minutes beats an hour of context.

Demonstrations

Show the thing. Let people ask about it.

Conversations

Hosted discussion rather than a performance.

Workshops

People leave having made or decided something.

Interviews

Somebody asks the questions the room is thinking.

Practical sessions

Tools, methods and things people can use on Monday.

We’re interested in people willing to share the useful bit.

Networks shouldn't begin halfway through your career.

Professional networks create enormous value. But access to those networks is uneven.

Students and emerging talent are often told they need to build a network, without being given many useful places to start.

KinShip can create opportunities for emerging talent to meet employers, hear honest career stories, share ideas, contribute, discover sectors, build confidence.

The objective isn’t creating a separate young people’s table. It’s creating environments where different generations and levels of experience participate together.

Experience should be shared, not guarded.

AI & Tech for Good

Technology conversations need more kinds of people in the room.

AI & Tech for Good is one of the formats that sits naturally within KinShip.

It brings together technologists, businesses, educators, charities, community leaders, curious people.

To explore questions around AI, emerging technology, responsible use, skills, impact, practical applications.

Technology conversations become more useful when they aren’t limited to technologists.

A diverse audience of technologists, businesses, educators and community leaders seated at a KinShip AI & Tech for Good session in a brick-walled Liverpool workspace

A few things we're trying not to create.

Being clear about what KinShip isn’t is part of keeping it worth showing up for.

  • Not a sales club

If the first question is who can I sell to, you may be missing the point.

  • Not pay-to-pitch

Access to the room should not depend on buying speaking time.

  • Not a clique

Communities become weaker if everybody already knows everybody.

  • Not only for founders

Business owners matter. So do educators, employees, creatives, students and community leaders.

  • Not just events

Events are one of the tools. Relationships are the real infrastructure.

  • Not something GoodShip* needs to control

A strong community should increasingly create value through the people participating in it.

Where

Liverpool is where KinShip started.

KinShip has grown from GoodShip*’s relationships and activity in Liverpool.

For now, Liverpool remains the heart of KinShip. But the underlying idea can travel.

Knowledge sharing, human connection, curiosity and generosity aren’t Liverpool-only behaviours. Over time, KinShip could collaborate with communities elsewhere, create pop-up activity, connect with GoodShip* work outside the city, develop international relationships.

Creativity
A city that has always made things and told stories about them.
Character
Independent, direct and allergic to pretence.
Sectors colliding
Health, culture, tech, education and community sit close together.
Sense of place
People show up for things that belong to somewhere.
Overlapping communities
Networks here already intersect in interesting ways.
Openness
Newcomers get included quickly.

Rooted somewhere. Open to everywhere.
