AI & Tech for Good · 2024–ongoing

Creating a space where AI conversations move from hype to something genuinely useful.

AI & Tech for Good was created by GoodShip* and Generative Minds UK to make space for a different kind of conversation. Less hype. Less selling. More practical examples, difficult questions, live experimentation and people from different sectors learning from each other.

The challenge

The challenge

AI was becoming one of the biggest conversations in business and society. But much of that conversation sat at two extremes.

At one end: AI will solve everything.

At the other: AI will destroy everything.

Neither position is especially useful to organisations and people trying to understand what they should actually do next.

There was also another problem. AI events could easily become rooms full of technologists talking to other technologists. The people who understand the problems are not always the people who understand the tools. And the people who understand the tools do not necessarily understand every sector they might affect.

We wanted to bring those groups together.

An audience seated in a Liverpool workspace watching an AI & Tech for Good talk, with GoodShip* and KinShip* banners alongside the screen.

The question we were trying to answer

What happens when we stop making AI the subject of the conversation and start with the problems people are actually trying to solve?

The approach

What we did

AI & Tech for Good has been developed as an ongoing partnership between GoodShip* and Generative Minds UK.

GoodShip* brings programme vision, strategic curation, event concepts, sector and ecosystem connections, community building, hosting and facilitation, brand and creative direction, audience development, storytelling, communications and live activation.

Generative Minds UK brings applied AI expertise, emerging-tool knowledge, live demonstrations, practical AI education, technical experimentation and responsible-use thinking.

Together, the aim is not simply to explain what new AI tools can do. It is to create conversations between technology and lived experience.

What we made

What was created

AI & Tech for Good has become more than an individual event.

Together we have developed a recurring event format, a recognisable identity, a growing audience, a cross-sector community, a programme of themes, marketing and social infrastructure, speaker and practitioner networks, venue partnerships, practical AI demonstrations, post-event insight content and an environment where difficult questions can be discussed openly.

In simple terms: Content + Brand + Community + Audience + Live Activation.

The impact

What changed

The series has grown from smaller knowledge-sharing sessions into a recurring platform for practical conversations about AI across Liverpool City Region.

The audience has broadened beyond technology specialists. People attending have included founders, SMEs, educators, students, creatives, healthcare professionals, academics, developers, business leaders, public-sector representatives and community organisations.

That mix is deliberate. The aim is to create cross-sector collisions.

A technologist hearing about a healthcare problem. An educator seeing an emerging tool. A founder meeting a researcher. A student challenging a senior decision-maker. A creative questioning whether efficiency is always the right objective.

Why this mattered

AI is increasingly going to affect almost every sector. That means no single profession should own the conversation about what happens next.

Responsible AI adoption needs more than technical capability. It needs technology, creativity, ethics, critical thinking, lived experience, commercial understanding, education and human judgement.

AI & Tech for Good creates a place where those perspectives can meet.

Next chapter

What happened next

AI & Tech for Good continues as an ongoing GoodShip* × Generative Minds UK partnership, activated through KinShip.

The format continues to evolve. Future sessions can move into different sectors, questions and communities while retaining the core proposition:

Practical technology. Real problems. Different perspectives. Useful conversations.

The partnership also extends beyond the event series. Generative Minds has supported wider GoodShip* activity including AI Activator delivery, bringing applied AI expertise into programmes focused on skills, employability and real-world challenges.

Learning

What we learned

The most interesting AI conversations happen when the room is not full of people who agree with each other.

Technology becomes more useful when it is exposed to people who understand the problem, people who understand the technology, people affected by the outcome and people willing to question both.

The person who understands the technology rarely understands every problem it could solve. The person who understands the problem may not realise what technology now makes possible.

Put them in the same room.
